The issue of sex trafficking has always lain very heavy on my heart, and helping those victims has become an extremely important aspect of my life.
In 2010, I founded a club committed to increasing awareness about the injustice of human trafficking, as well as raising funds to help victims of this tragedy. The mission of the STOP Trafficking of People Club was to encourage students to get involved in the fight to end the slavery of today's world. The club that originated at Granite Bay High School has opened charters at other local high schools and is still active today. Upon starting university, I joined a student organization called CURESLO that partners with an international nonprofit that has hospitals in under-served countries, living out the mission of Luke 9:2 “Healing the Sick and Proclaiming the Kingdom of God.” In addition to being involved in CURE SLO for 4 years and on the executive board 3 years, I spent the summer of 2015 at the CURE hospital in Kenya. Through all of these experiences with CURE, I learned, whether local or global, that the greatest rewards come not from what you get, but what you give of yourself to those around you. God really used my time with this ministry to grow my passion for missions. My calling to get involved in anti-trafficking ministry was even more greatly strengthened after my short term mission trip with Bayside Church to serve with Agape International Missions in Cambodia in November 2016. This mission trip allowed me the amazing opportunity to witness how AIM fights to end child sex trafficking through their many ministries. I have never seen God shine so clearly through so many people, or felt him work in my heart more, than the short two weeks I spent serving at Agape International. After coming alongside this amazing ministry, I couldn’t let my work in Cambodia end. I am so excited to say that I am going to serve long-term with AIM to prevent, rescue, restore and reintegrate girls that have been victims of trafficking. I have accepted a position in the Agape Restoration Home, AIM's the Aftercare program for rescued women and girls. The empathy and compassion I have for these victimized women truly reveals my heart’s desires. I want to be a light in this world, striving to overcome the kind of darkness found in slavery today. I long to free these victims from the chains of the evil of sex trafficking. I personally believe that human beings are called to love on those who suffer and fight for justice in this world. My ever-growing resolve to end the horror that is sex trafficking continues to be strengthened, and I feel that my position at AIM will be just a step in this life-long journey...
